We are convinced: To master the energy transition, it is not enough to offer green electricity that is 100% renewable. True green electricity also requires continuously building new renewable energy plants to ensure the long-term shift of Germany's energy supply to "green". We are also convinced that the most important building block of the energy transition is green electricity generation itself. That's why we feed at least as much electricity from our own wind farms into the German electricity grid as our customers consume. This is not just a promise - it is our commitment.

Power generation instead of trading: the Prokon self-commitment

Our self-commitment is our central promise that goes far beyond legal requirements.

A company that also produces the green electricity it sells can have this certified. We have taken this path with our voluntary commitment. Since 2016, TÜV Nord has continuously confirmed that we produce more electricity with our own plants than our customers consume, up to ten times more. Since 2021, TÜV has additionally confirmed that the electricity for the 'Prokon Windstrom' tariff comes entirely from our own plants.

Background: Production and trading of green electricity are two different things. Typically, a trader at the Leipzig electricity exchange buys the required amount of renewable energy to pass on to end consumers. Because many German green electricity providers do not produce the electricity they offer, they must document with an origin certificate where the electricity they sell comes from.

Expansion of Renewable Energy facilities– guaranteed

The OK Power Label guarantees you a 100% supply of green electricity. Furthermore, we commit to installing at least as many new renewable energy facilities in the next 5 years so that with the amount of electricity generated, at least 50% of the electricity demand of new customers can be fed into the grid.

Calculation example: If we gain 1,000 new customers in the first year, consuming a total of 3,000,000 kWh per year, we must have installed new facilities by the end of year 5 that generate at least 1,500,000 kWh per year.
