Great success for the energy transition: After a long planning phase, we received approval for the new wind farm Podelzig-Lebus II. The permit was granted at the end of May 2025 – after four years and eight months.
The permit was granted for six wind energy turbines (WEA) of the GE 158 type, each with a capacity of 5.5 megawatts (MW). This gives the park a total approved capacity of 33 MW. At the same time, Prokon has already submitted an application to amend the permit – to the more powerful Nordex N 163 turbine type with 7 MW per turbine. This would increase the park's total capacity to 42 MW.
The Podelzig-Lebus II wind farm will be connected to Prokon’s own substation, which also connects the nearby Friedersdorf wind farm. This ensures efficient integration of the wind-generated electricity into the power grid.
With the follow-up project Podelzig-Lebus II, we are continuing to expand our presence in the region (following Podelzig-Lebus I). The new wind farm will generate around 89 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, thus making an important contribution to climate-friendly energy supply in the region and delivering long-term benefits for both the climate and society.
„Mit der Genehmigung von Podelzig-Lebus II haben wir allein in diesem Jahr Genehmigungen für Windparks mit insgesamt 80 MW Leistung erhalten. Weitere Genehmigungen erwarten wir zeitnah.“
Christoph Rosengarten, Bereichsleiter Projektentwicklung
The nearly five-year approval phase for Podelzig-Lebus II clearly shows that even well-prepared wind farm projects often take far too long in Germany. The reason for this lies in lengthy coordination processes and extensive review procedures with the relevant authorities. This highlights the urgent need to simplify and accelerate the procedures surrounding planning and approval. At the same time, the recently issued permit proves that perseverance and good preparation ultimately pay off. However, things cannot remain this way – because only when wind farms are implemented more quickly can renewable energies compete economically with fossil fuels and become the better long-term alternative.
