Pictures of the construction and operation of the Rusiec II Wind Farm
The wind farm project Rusiec II in the Lodz region in Central Poland was connected to the grid in the second half of 2024. The park expands the existing Rusiec I Wind farm with eight new turbines. Thanks to the recently changed legislation in Poland and the positive economic conditions, the second part of the wind farm has now been successfully completed. This development is a significant step forward for the expansion of renewable energy in Poland.

Wind energy is a central pillar of the energy transition in Europe, particularly in Poland, whose energy mix needs to be extensively restructured. Due to the high CO2 emissions from the dominant coal power plants, the expansion of wind energy sources is essential. Decarbonising the electricity industry is only the beginning; the complete decarbonisation of other sectors, such as steel, cement, and transport, will multiply electricity demand. This will require the use of all available energy and storage technologies, with wind power playing a decisive role.
In 2024, there were significant legal changes in Poland in favour of wind energy. Particularly noteworthy is the liberalisation of the previous 10H distance requirement, which stipulated that wind turbines had to be located at least ten times their height away from the nearest residential buildings. This rule has now been reduced to a minimum distance of 700 metres. This change has the potential to significantly accelerate the expansion of wind energy, as more locations are now available for the construction of wind turbines. Although the mass installation of these modern wind turbines is not expected to begin until 2025-2026, the legal amendment is already laying the foundation for future developments.
