Certified green electricity - with ok-power-plus and TÜV Nord label!

Since 2016, our electricity has been certified with the ok-power seal - since 2017 even with the stricter ok-power-plus seal - the premium award for green electricity.

What does the seal guarantee?

The ok-power seal ensures you a 100% supply of green electricity. It obliges certified electricity providers to also build renewable energy power plants within five years, which produce at least 50% of the new customer demand. Since we can produce more than 100% of customer demand ourselves every year, we have achieved the ok-power-plus seal at every annual inspection since 2017. In Germany, only four green electricity providers meet the strict criteria!

More than just electricity with a green "sticker"

Behind the seal is the non-profit association EnergieVision e.V., founded in 2000. The institutional association members include the Freiburg Environmental Institute e.V. and the HIR Hamburg Institute Research gGmbH. Its main goal is to promote consumer and environmental protection, as well as market transparency in the energy industry.

As a green electricity provider, we want to actively shape the energy transition - and that is also the view of EnergieVision e.V. Therefore, the company's commitment is also evaluated for a successful certification: certified providers must demonstrate that they actively contribute to displacing conventionally generated electricity from nuclear and coal power and to promote the expansion of renewable energies and their feed-in. This ensures that the certified electricity providers are not just selling an electricity product with a green label.

Proof in Detail – what is checked and how?

The evidence of commitment to expanding renewable energy can be provided in various ways. Prokon Strom is certified under the 'Initiation Model'. This means that as Prokon eG, we continuously build new renewable energy facilities, thereby making the electricity we offer increasingly green.

As Prokon, we must demonstrate each year:

• That we supply all customers with electricity from renewable sources.

• That we install enough new renewable energy facilities to cover at least half of the electricity demand of new customers and feed it into the grid.

• That we build enough new facilities to cover at least 4% of the electricity demand of existing customers and feed it into the grid. These facilities must be renewed and updated to the latest technology every 25 years.

• That we are not involved in nuclear power plants, lignite power plants, or hard coal power plants.

In addition to the ok-power-plus label, our self-commitment has been independently verified by TÜV Nord.

Since 2016, Prokon Strom proudly carries the TÜV Nord seal for green energy. This seal is awarded by TÜV Nord, which conducts its own process for verifying green energy tariffs. Moreover, TÜV Nord examines individual criteria regarding power supply and certifies them.

What does the TÜV Nord seal guarantee?

The TÜV Nord seal also ensures that Prokon Strom is sourced 100% from renewable energies. Since 1st January 2021, we have been supplying our customers with Prokon Wind Power from our own wind farms. Wind power - directly from the producer. We have included this as an additional point in the certification.

Furthermore, we have imposed a self-commitment that has been reviewed by TÜV Nord since day one. With this commitment, we ensure that in line with the concept of the power lake, every year we inject at least as much power from our own wind turbines into the German power grid as we supply to them. As part of the green energy certification, TÜV Nord annually verifies the fulfilment of this self-commitment.
