Wir feiern unser Doppel-Jubiläum
Schon 30 Jahre sind vergangen, seit Prokon damals in den 90er Jahren als kleines Projektierungsbüro für Windparks in Itzehoe gegründet wurde. Schon seit 10 Jahren kann man sich als Mitglied bei Prokon an unserer Vision beteiligen.
Wir feiern daher 30 Jahre Prokon & 10 Jahre Genossenschaft unter dem Motto "Gemeinsam volle (Wind-)Kraft!" und zeigen euch, was sich in den vergangenen drei Jahrzehnten alles bei uns getan hat, wo wir hinwollen und wer alles mit uns zusammen feiert.

For the anniversary year 2025 (30 years of Prokon, 10 years as an energy cooperative), we are accompanied by a motto that encapsulates our core identity. It symbolically shows outstretched hands in Prokon’s colours, coming together in the centre. They represent what lies at the heart of Prokon: solidarity, participation, and collective responsibility.
The motto “Together at full (wind) power” connects this sense of community with our driving force: actively shaping the energy transition. Decentralised, renewable, and citizen-supported. The play on words deliberately points to both our origins and our future: wind power as our technical foundation, and the “we” as our cooperative spirit.
We are not only celebrating our anniversary as a reflection on what we have achieved, but also as an invitation – to continue shaping, driving change, and taking responsibility together – for a sustainable energy future.
1995
Foundation of Prokon Energiesysteme GmbH: A pioneer gets to work
PROKON Energiesysteme GmbH was founded on 20 October 1995 as a small project development office in northern Germany with the idea of providing an alternative to nuclear power.
2005
Prokon celebrates its 10th anniversary: Wind farms in five federal states connected to the grid
Parallel to the planning of new wind farms, the company quickly began to set up its own operations management.
2007
Opening of further project offices in Germany, Poland and Finland
The opening of a project development office in Gdansk in 2007 marked the start of the first foreign activities in Poland.
2013
Starting signal for the sale of green electricity to private households
In January 2013, Prokon expanded its range of services and began supplying the first German household customers with Prokon electricity. The company, which had previously only produced electricity, thus also became an electricity supplier.
2015
From insolvency to a success story: Prokon becomes an energy cooperative
2014 was Prokon's most difficult phase.
2017
Commissioning of Gagel wind farm: the largest wind farm project since 1995
Under the name Prokon, the company had built up a reputation in the industry over the years as a reliable, experienced business partner.
2018
The cooperative grows and prospers: entry into the photovoltaic sector
Having previously focussed on the development and operation of wind farms, Prokon expanded its project planning activities to an obvious business area in 2018: photovoltaics.
2020
Commissioning of Hedet wind farm: Prokon also acts as operator in Finland
With the Hedet wind farm, the Finnish Prokon office successfully commissioned its largest wind project since 2011 in 2020.
2021
Market launch of "Prokon Windstrom" and a new project planning office in Spain
Due to its commitment to only supply as many customers with Prokon electricity as its own wind turbines can deliver, Prokon is making its electricity product even more sustainable in 2021: "Prokon Strom" will become "Prokon Windstrom".
2023
Start of construction of the Walshausen solar park: the first open-space PV project is under construction
After the first rooftop photovoltaic systems, our first large-scale ground-mounted project will follow in 2023 with the start of construction on the Walshausen project.
2025
Prokon celebrates its double anniversary.

A highlight of our anniversary year was the event weekend at the end of May in Itzehoe: with a ceremonial reception at the Old Town Hall and the public market “Wind & Values” in the city centre, we celebrated our 30th anniversary and 10 years as an energy cooperative.
The reception, attended by guests from politics, business and civil society, provided space for reflection, future outlooks and the first-ever presentation of the Prokon Awards. The market brought the energy transition right into the heart of the town – with hands-on technology, regional exhibitors, stage performances and many personal conversations.

Käthe & Paul startet durch
To mark Prokon’s 30th anniversary, we are turning a new page: the Prokon Journal is becoming “Käthe & Paul”. Our magazine with attitude, closeness, and energy.
The new name is more than just a new title: Käthe and Paul were the very first wind turbines back in 1993 – the beginning of it all. They still symbolise our roots, personal connection – and an energy future we are shaping together.

Looking back on the path to becoming a cooperative: Pioneers share their stories
Anlässlich des Jubiläumsjahrs von Prokon haben Wolfgang Siegel und Rainer Doemen eine persönliche Rückschau auf die Jahre rund um die Genossenschaftsgründung verfasst. Aus Sicht zweier damals engagierter Mitglieder wird der Zeitraum zwischen der Insolvenz 2014 und dem Neustart als Genossenschaft nachgezeichnet.
