Open House in the InnoQuarter Itzehoe: A Future You Can Experience
How much technology goes into modern energy projects? Who develops new installations, keeps them running, or decides which technology is used? At the InnoQuarter Itzehoe Open House, we opened our headquarters and gave answers first-hand. Visitors were able to experience our work up close and speak with the people who work every day on the issues of the future.
Microelectronics, battery technology, digitalisation, mechanical engineering and renewable energy: more than 25 companies, start-ups and institutions showed at the Open House how diverse Itzehoe’s innovation landscape is. As a “Member of InnoQuarter Itzehoe”, we are part of this network and contribute the perspective of renewable energy. At the Open House, this could be experienced in two places: at the central InnoQuarter market square and at our headquarters.
Look, ask, understand
What does a service team do in a wind farm? What technology is inside a wind turbine? And what happens to large components when they need to be maintained or repaired?
At our Prokon trail, visitors were able to experience wind energy from different perspectives: they explored a service van, looked inside the warehouse, experienced a wind turbine through VR goggles and visited our large components hall. More than 300 visitors came to our site alone.
It was not just about looking. Members wanted to know, for example, how we develop new wind farms, what happens during repowering, or why a particular turbine type is used for a project. Other guests found out how citizens can take part in the energy transition through the cooperative.

Wind farms do not come into being with a good idea alone. Projects have to be developed and financed, turbines built, operated and maintained. Our colleagues showed at the Open House how many different skills come together at Prokon to make this happen.
This also sparked interest in us as an employer. Guests asked specifically about vacancies, internships and entry opportunities. In particular, younger visitors took the opportunity to find out more about career profiles and prospects at Prokon.
What InnoQuarter Itzehoe means to us
For us, that is precisely the value of a day like this: we do not just want to talk about the energy transition, but show how we put it into practice. Anyone who sees our technology, gets to know our projects and can ask the people behind them questions gains a much clearer impression of what modern wind energy means in practice.
At the same time, the Open House made visible what “Member of InnoQuarter Itzehoe” means for us: through renewable energy, Prokon is part of a network in which companies, start-ups and research institutions bring together a wide range of technologies and expertise. Our contribution comes from wind energy – and, for more than 30 years, from Itzehoe.
