Permission granted: Prokon plans nine new wind turbines in the Dennin II wind farm

A significant milestone for the expansion of wind energy in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: on 18 June 2026, approval under the Federal Immission Control Act was granted for the Dennin II wind farm. Prokon plans to build nine modern wind turbines there, with a total capacity of 64.8 megawatts.

The new turbines are to be built in a designated wind-energy area in the municipality of Spantekow, in the Dennin district. Nine Vestas V162 wind turbines are planned, each with a hub height of 169 metres and an output of 7.2 megawatts.

The Dennin II wind farm will extend the existing Dennin wind farm (picture). Prokon currently operates three wind turbines there, each with an output of 3.6 megawatts. With the planned expansion, the installed capacity at the site will increase significantly.

Long-term project development pays off

The road to approval was a long one. The approval procedure under the Federal Immission Control Act ran from 27 September 2023 to 16 June 2026. However, project development had already begun many years earlier.

Originally, the Dennin II turbines were to be built together with the three existing wind turbines. At the time, however, aviation law issues prevented the additional sites from being implemented. A positive statement from the competent aviation authority in 2022 enabled Prokon to resume planning.

This also made it possible to further develop the sites with a new generation of turbines. Instead of the technology originally planned, much more powerful wind turbines with an output of 7.2 megawatts each are now to be installed.

    More renewable energy from Dennin

With the approval, a key step has been reached for the further implementation of the wind farm. The nine planned turbines will in future be able to make an important contribution to renewable electricity generation in the region.

At the same time, the project shows that perseverance in wind energy planning pays off: by revisiting the sites and using modern turbine technology, it is now possible to deliver significantly more renewable capacity than was originally envisaged at the start of the project development.
