Prokon eG is taking an important step in the further development of its business strategy: parts of its electricity marketing will in future be handled in-house. In doing so, the energy cooperative is responding to changing market conditions and strengthening its position in the energy market.

Whereas wind turbines were previously secured for many years by fixed remuneration under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), so-called post-EEG plants can sell their electricity on the market. Until now, external direct marketers had taken on this task.
In future, Prokon will manage key processes itself — including the creation of electricity forecasts and trading on the power market (day-ahead and intraday markets). The aim is to reduce costs while also tapping into additional sources of revenue.
Prokon is supported in this by the platform of the company Tokwise. The software processes data such as weather forecasts, electricity prices and feed-in volumes in real time, and provides automated recommendations for action in electricity trading. This enables Prokon to respond flexibly to market changes and market the wind power it generates to best advantage.

With the new approach, Prokon retains more value creation within the company itself. At the same time, new opportunities are opening up, for example in handling electricity supply contracts (PPAs / Power Purchase Agreements,) or in directly supplying customers with electricity generated by its own wind power.
For electricity customers and cooperative members, nothing changes: Prokon will continue to provide reliable green electricity and ensure stable prices – even in times of fluctuating electricity generation.
Self-marketing of electricity is still not very widespread in the industry. Only a few companies in the renewable energy sector have comparable expertise. Prokon is thus gaining an important competitive advantage and is acquiring early experience in an increasingly complex market environment.
In the long term, the decision supports the company strategy: Prokon wants to further improve its profitability while at the same time expanding direct access to renewable electricity for members and customers. In addition, the new expertise creates the basis for better integrating energy storage systems, photovoltaic installations and large consumers into the energy system in the future.
Prokon wind power is also available for both domestic and commercial use:
