Trainee Start: How the First Weeks Went

On 1 August, we welcomed three new apprentices in the fields of IT, industrial operations and marketing. This continues our tradition of training and further expands our range of apprenticeship opportunities. For the past few weeks, Aaltje, Mateusz and Janosch have been part of the Prokon team and have already gained their first insights into their respective departments. They have now settled in well and become more familiar with their teams. We wanted to know how they experienced their first weeks with us and what they hope to gain from their apprenticeship with us.

During the first two weeks, our new apprentices completed a comprehensive onboarding programme designed to ease their transition into their training and working environment at Prokon. As part of this, they received an initial overview of the company structure and were introduced to Prokon’s history, values, and goals.

A key component of the programme was the detailed safety training, during which the apprentices were informed about important regulations and measures related to occupational health and safety – an essential foundation for a safe start to their professional careers.

Additionally, the apprentices were familiarised with the various departments and gained initial insights into their respective areas of assignment. The onboarding was accompanied by practical training sessions, introductory discussions, and opportunities to engage with trainers and colleagues from across the company. This allowed the new apprentices not only to gain valuable knowledge, but also to find personal orientation, establish initial contacts, and become part of the Prokon team.

    More than just a career start

    Training at Prokon is not just a starting point into professional life – it offers young people the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. Our trainees themselves share what they particularly value about their time at Prokon:

    For Janosch Woosmann, a prospective industrial clerk, the variety of tasks is key: “My training at Prokon is a central source of motivation for me. It not only gives me the chance to gain a great deal of specialist knowledge, but also to grow beyond myself on a personal level. Thanks to the diverse range of tasks, close collaboration with experienced colleagues, and involvement in real business processes, I gain a comprehensive insight into practical work. What I particularly appreciate is that I am entrusted with responsibility right from the start and that my ideas are taken seriously.”

    Aaltje Velde, a trainee in marketing communications, also looks back positively on her start. For her, the internship at Prokon played a decisive role: "I chose to do my apprenticeship at Prokon because I was welcomed with open arms during my internship here. Right from the beginning, I felt like part of the team. That showed me that it's not only about doing good work here, but also about valuing the person behind it. What especially motivated me was the idea of sustainability: at Prokon, I can actively contribute to the energy transition every day. It feels good to know that my work makes a meaningful contribution – not just for the company, but also for our future."

    I really enjoyed the first four weeks of my training, as I have already learned a lot of new things and gained exciting insights. Above all, the friendly, engaging, and cool introduction to the team made it easy for me to get started and gave me a positive preview of the rest of the training.

    15 Years In – Sonja's Prokon Story

    For many years now, Sonja Scheerer has been passionately committed to communicating sustainable energy solutions. Her journey at Prokon began 15 years ago with an apprenticeship as a marketing communications clerk – a path that took her from her first insights into the world of marketing to a longstanding role in corporate communications. She shares with us what convinced her about Prokon, why she stayed, and what especially motivates her today.  

    “It’s already been 15 years since I completed my apprenticeship as a marketing communications clerk at Prokon. I was very interested in marketing even back then, and the company’s commitment to sustainability ultimately won me over. During my apprenticeship, I got to know many different departments and gained a wealth of experience that went beyond the curriculum. The variety of tasks and areas, the dedication to renewable energies, and the sense of community led me to stay with Prokon after finishing my training. I’ve now been working in the cooperative’s corporate communications department for nearly 10 years.”
