Statement of the Management Board of Prokon Regenerative Energien eG
In Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, important state elections are approaching. Both federal states are of particular importance to Prokon. Here we operate wind farms, develop new projects, and work with municipalities, landowners, service providers, authorities and other local people. Numerous members, employees of our cooperative live in these federal states. Here, it becomes clear what the energy transition means in practical terms: value creation in the region, electricity from renewable energies, new infrastructure and participation.
As an energy cooperative, Prokon stands for a clear position: the energy transition can only succeed in an open, democratic and reliable society. It needs debate, criticism and better solutions. But it also needs facts, respect, rule-of-law procedures and political conditions on which people and businesses can rely.
Anyone who blanket-challenges wind energy, seeks to halt approvals or to slow down the expansion of renewable energy is endangering not only climate action. They are also putting investment, jobs, municipal revenues and regional development at risk. Particularly in rural areas, wind farms can make a concrete contribution: they generate renewable electricity, create orders for local businesses and strengthen communities through participation models and levies.
Prokon has been investing in renewable energies for more than 30 years. We do this together with our members and with many partners in the regions. For this, we do not need political standstill, but planning certainty. We need faster procedures, efficient grids, fair market rules and policies that do not make the expansion of renewable energy a plaything of short-term moods.
