Repowering Fleetmark
The cooperative Prokon is launching its first major repowering project: at the Fleetmark wind farm in Saxony-Anhalt, eight new high-performance turbines of the 6 MW-164m type from GE Vernova will replace ten older turbines. This marks a significant technical step forward for the company's continued expansion strategy.
In the northeast of Saxony-Anhalt, in the area of the municipality of Fleetmark, Prokon is currently realising its first large-scale repowering project with "Fleetmark III". Eight wind turbines of the 6 MW-164m type from GE Vernova are set to be commissioned there in the future.
The aim is to replace the older turbines at the site with modern technology – offering significantly higher output with a reduced number of turbines. This has positive effects in terms of land conservation, increased energy yields, and the overall economic efficiency of the project.
The order for the technical components for the new turbines was already placed in the second quarter of 2025. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for November 2026, with commissioning planned for spring 2027.

Prokon-Windpark Fleetmark I/II
The Fleetmark III project marks a significant step: it is the cooperative’s first major repowering project and clearly demonstrates how community energy projects can continue to grow sustainably and economically beyond a 20-year period.
By switching to modern turbine technology, each turbine can achieve a higher electricity output, thereby efficiently strengthening the production base. This optimisation supports the long-term stability of the cooperative and also contributes to achieving Germany’s expansion targets.
In addition to preparations for Fleetmark III, the Prokon cooperative is simultaneously pushing ahead with the implementation of many other projects:
The wind farm in Nadrensee (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), featuring four turbines of 7 MW each, is already under construction and, according to current planning, is scheduled to go online by the end of 2026.
Wind and solar projects with a capacity of over 2,500 MW are also in planning or approval stages – including in Schleswig-Holstein (Horst IV) and Brandenburg (Podelzig–Lebus II, Blumberg II/III).
This project pipeline underlines the cooperative’s and its members’ goal to double their own electricity generation to around 2 billion kWh per year by 2030.
As a large energy cooperative, Prokon is active throughout Germany in expanding renewable energy and offers not only local residents the opportunity to support the energy transition in the hands of citizens. Those interested in more sustainable energy can make a direct contribution by becoming a Prokon member, as members’ financial participation flows directly into the development of new projects. And with over 40,000 members, it’s clear: what one person alone cannot achieve, many can accomplish together.
