Dr. Thea Klepzig comes from a family that has operated a windmill for generations. Today, she is a board member at Prokon. Why?
Proudly, Dr. Thea Klepzig tells of the old Dutch mill in Unseburg, Saxony-Anhalt. Her family operated it until 1945, which shapes them: "We feel like windmillers," she says. Consequently, the PhD in financial economics, who held management positions first at the Farmers' Bank and then as director in a large agricultural combine during the GDR era, landed at Prokon already in 2011. At that time, she had just withdrawn from the construction cleaning company founded with her husband after reunification ("We prepared the new housing estates around Berlin for the new tenants").
After the insolvency of Prokon GmbH in 2015, Thea Klepzig then got involved in the new cooperative. "Just criticising won't achieve anything, one must get involved," she says. At every general meeting, she spoke up, after all, she is a professional. "I am knowledgeable about construction and money," explains Thea Klepzig, "these strengths are what I bring to my commitment to the cooperative." She does not shy away from occasional disagreements: "There is sometimes friction - but what's important is to keep the conversation going and treat each other decently." Her enthusiasm for discussion is well received: "People accept me, and that gives me joy."
The fact that the first board of the cooperative, like in many other companies, was appointed by the management did not sit well with Thea Klepzig: "The base should select the regional council members." She got involved in the working group and helped develop the council regulations. The result is well known: today, Prokon members elect their council members - and Thea Klepzig sits on the Eastern board.
With her own energy, she advocates for her goals in the committee: "We aim to promote sustainable energy production and the economic success of our cooperative." She believes in this and has already enlisted her three daughters and three great-granddaughters as Prokon members. Even as a board member, Thea Klepzig remains critical. She sees her role as that of an information provider and calls for additional background information. "I would like to see more figures on the costs and benefits of the projects," she says.
Thea Klepzig and the other East Advisory Board members ("We are a strong team") are in close collaboration with the Prokon project developers in Potsdam. Together, they are developing arguments for wind power:
"When it recently emerged that for 15 years, due to a systematic calculation error, the infrasound of the installations had been wrongly demonized as harmful to health, we knew: we have to communicate this aggressively.
Because: "The acceptance of wind turbines in the population also depends on the appearance and commitment of the cooperative members." And because of this, Thea Klepzig calls on all members at Prokon: "Get involved, Prokon only works through collaboration."
