New tariff for wind farm operators: We are launching Wind Power Business WEA

With Windstrom Business WEA, we are expanding our offering for wind farm operators in Germany. The new tariff is aimed at operators of wind turbines and launches in time for WindEnergy Hamburg.

Wind turbines also need a reliable supply of electricity – for example during periods of calm, maintenance work, technical shutdowns, when restarting, or in winter when individual components need to be heated. This additional electricity demand is often referred to as residual electricity or auxiliary electricity.

In a wind farm, this demand is often first covered internally: when one turbine generates electricity, it can supply not only itself but also other turbines in the park. Only the electricity produced in excess of this is fed into the grid. However, if the demand within the wind farm cannot be fully covered – for example during periods of calm, maintenance, or shutdown – electricity is drawn from the grid.

With Windstrom Business WEA, we offer a nationwide electricity product for wind farm operators. The idea behind it is simple: those who operate wind turbines should also be able to source the additional electricity they need from wind power.

From practice, for practice

As operators of our own wind farms, we know from first-hand experience the requirements of day-to-day wind turbine operations. Windstrom Business WEA grew directly out of this experience: an offer for operators looking for a suitable supply solution for their plants and who would like to work with a partner from the wind energy sector.

The electricity comes 100 per cent from German wind turbines and primarily from our own wind farms. The initial contract term is twelve months. After that, the contract is automatically renewed.

Depending on their needs, operators can choose between two options: Windstrom Business Fix WEA offers a fixed energy price, and therefore greater planning certainty. Windstrom Business Flex WEA is based on dynamic energy prices and is suitable for operators who want to participate more closely in market developments.

Renewable energy for plant operations

For wind farm operators, supply with renewable electricity can also help when transparently presenting their own carbon footprint. After all, the remaining electricity demand of the installations can be covered with Windstrom Business WEA from renewable energy sources.

With the new tariff, we are strengthening our offer for business customers and at the same time creating a solution within the wind energy sector: wind power for wind turbines – from a cooperative that has itself been developing, operating and maintaining wind farms for many years.
