Notice regarding the cancellation, registration or transfer of an electricity contract
The Federal Network Agency will introduce new technical standards and deadlines for switching electricity providers from 6 June. The aim is to enable a change of electricity supplier within 24 hours on working days.
Important: Retroactive registrations, cancellations or changes are no longer possible. This means that in the event of a move or a change of provider, an electricity contract can only be concluded for a future date – no longer retroactively.
Currently, there may be delays in processing registrations and cancellations at Prokon – as is the case with all energy suppliers and grid operators. We are working hard to implement the new processes technically. Regardless of this, you can of course still switch to Prokon electricity at any time.
This is what changes in concrete terms:
Supplier switch within 24 hours: A change of supplier will now be possible within 24 hours on working days – provided there are no existing contractual obligations.
No retroactive effect: Electricity contracts can only be concluded for future dates. This particularly applies to registrations when moving house.
Contract durations still apply: Notice periods and contract durations remain valid and take precedence over a short-term switch.
